This late 1950s photograph shows the breadth of development along East Gulf Boulevard, Bahia Vista Drive, and La Hacienda Drive. The Bahia Vista subdivision, with its waterfront homes on newly created land, was begun in 1955. At the very top of the picture is the new Walsingham Bridge, which provided easy access to the growing community.

This spreading oak tree, possibly the largest in Indian Rocks Beach, was spared during road construction in the area. Developer Laura Brown decreed that Eighteenth Avenue should be split to run along either side of tree rather than removing it. The tree is still growing in the middle of the road.
